If you’re planning a trip to the Florida Keys, fishing isn’t just an activity—it’s the experience. Known as one of the top sport fishing destinations in the world, the Keys offer everything from offshore trophy catches to laid-back days on the water. Whether you’re a seasoned angler or just looking to try something new, this guide covers the best fishing in the Florida Keys, when to go, what to catch, and how to plan your trip.

When Is Lobster Season in Marathon? Lobster season in the Florida Keys happens twice each year: Mini-Season: A two-day event typically held the last Wednesday and Thursday of July, designed to give recreational divers an early crack at catching lobster before the commercial traps go in. Regular Season: Runs from August 6 through March 31, offering months of opportunity to enjoy the chase—and the feast. Both seasons are hugely popular, so be sure to plan your stay and boat rental early!
